"PCUSA 101"
Class

Pastor Katey will be leading a discussion-based class on the basics of our denomination's theology and beliefs. It will be meeting on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10:30-11:30am in the office conference room (next door to the sanctuary in Westminster Center).

Our first gathering will be on DECEMBER 5. Please let Pastor Katey know if you are interested in attending.

If you are interested but unavailable during this time, let us know - we'd be happy to schedule a second class!

Adult CE

Adult Christian Education

The Adult Education group has two classes scheduled for Fall and they will be completed before the first Sunday in December. ALL are welcome to participate in either or both! Our two classes are entitled Practice Generosity and Hope.

Practice Generosity:

Generosity is often understood as an act of kindness that involves giving out of one’s
abundance to others in need. Biblical teachings describe the practice as something a little
different. Generosity is simply, and profoundly, love in action. We practice generosity in all the
ways we love God and love our neighbors. It is a practice rooted in justice and concerned with
all the world’s needs. One may not have a penny to give but can still be plenty generous.
Generosity is an expectation not a simple kindness to be observed. Generosity is caring for our
neighbors’ mind, body, spirit, and life in the community.

Practice Generosity will begin on Sunday, September 15 and will consist of these readings:

1. Share Resources (Luke 10:25-37, Acts 4:32-35)

2. Share Wisdom (Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Acts 18:1-4, 24-28)

3. Share Justice (Isaiah 58:1-12, Luke 4:16-19)

4. Share Power (Leviticus 25:1-17, Luke 18:18-30)

There is an Adult Reflection Guide that accompanies the class.

The second class is called HOPE and will consist of four sessions beginning in October.

HOPE:

Hope is waiting in faith. It is not merely wishing for something to happen or hoping everything
will work out if the stars align. Hope is waiting with anticipation—at times, with impatience—for
what you know and believe is coming. In Hebrew, the word for rope and hope are the same.
Hope is something outside ourselves that tethers us to safety and helps us keep going, even
when we can’t see our way. Hope is prevalent during the season of Advent, and this unit is a
great choice for any advent season.

HOPE will consist of these readings:

1. Hear Hope (Isaiah 9:1a, 6; John 1:14; Matthew 28:20)

2. See Hope (Genesis 1:1–5, 31; John 1:1–5)

3. Offer and Receive Hope (Mark 2:1–12)

4. Proclaim Hope (Luke 4:14–21)

Contact the office for more information, or if you'd be interested in starting another class!

Children's Sunday School

During the school year, Children's Sunday School meets during the second half of worship. After the children's message, kids from age 3 through 6th grade are invited to attend Sunday School on the second floor (although they're more than welcome to stay in worship if they prefer!)

We are currently using the "Growing in Grace & Gratitude" curriculum (developed and produced by the PCUSA). At the end of three years, they will have covered a majority of the most important stories in the Bible in a kid-friendly way.

If you have any questions, please contact us.
