Changes in Worship Due to COVID-19

We're trying to keep our worship service as consistent as possible while still protecting the health of our community. Our motto at Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church is "Exercising an overabundance of caution out of an overabundance of love." Whether you're ready to venture back to our sanctuary or still prefer to participate from home, we're glad you're joining us for worship!

Physical Worship

Our worship service has been shortened to limit the opportunity for the pandemic to spread. As always, you're welcome to come as you are! Currently, a small number of us (about 10-15 people, including leadership) are worshiping in the sanctuary. We take the following precautions to ensure everyone's health and safety:

  • Pews are taped off to ensure physical distancing during worship (families may sit together).

  • Hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes are located all around the sanctuary, including in pews.

  • No group singing, including Boone Singers and congregational singing (we're learning new ways to worship through music, including silent reflection on the melody and words.)

  • We have one hymn every Sunday, sung by a soloist.

  • No verbal responses--instead, member Donna Oyama leads us in sign language responses!

  • We have purchased air scrubbers to continuously purify and circulate the air.

  • We ask that everyone wear masks, including worship leadership. (it's helpful if you bring your own, but we have you covered if you forget!)

  • If you struggle to wear a mask for an extended amount of time AND ARE FULLY VACCINATED, we have set aside the first two pews for you to sit in if you need to unmask.

  • We no longer pass the offering plates. Instead, you're welcome to mail a check to our offices (406 S. 14th Ave., Caldwell, ID 83605) or to donate online through your checking or savings account, or with a debit or credit card. We're grateful for your continued financial support during this time!

  • The first Sunday of the month, we ask everyone to bring their own communion elements. Grape juice and bread is great, but so is crackers and apple juice, or cereal and milk - whatever you have at home! We'll have prepackaged elements if you forget.

  • Limited fellowship/coffee hour following worship will be held outside, weather permitting.

It's a strange new normal, but we're grateful for the ability to continue worshiping in new ways to show our love for our neighbors!

Virtual Worship

Join us live on Sundays at 11:00 am Mountain Time on our Facebook Page. The bulletin is posted online ahead of time, so you can follow along from home. You can even participate in real time by sending a text to the pastor for prayer requests!

(Of course, if you're worshiping virtually from home, you're welcome to sing along and respond aloud to your heart's content!)

Christian Education

In September 2020, we began a new year of Children's Sunday School in a brand new way! Sunday School now has two parts—you can participate in either or both, whatever works best for your family!

On Sundays at 9:00 am, our Youtube channel posts the day's Sunday School lesson. They'll be brief—usually less than 10 minutes long. You can either watch when it goes live or come back at a time that's more convenient for you.

*There will be no new Sunday School videos during the summer, but this past year's will still be up for you to enjoy!*

Then, during worship at 11:00 am, we have physically distanced tables at the back of the sanctuary (one table for each family unit) where kids can go to do a craft or project related to the day's lesson and eat a pre-packaged snack. A (masked) teacher will be there to help keep things running smoothly. If you finish your project early, there's also crayons available for you to color with, or you're welcome to do a quiet activity that you bring yourself.

This is a difficult time for everyone, but we're committed to getting through it together as a community of God! We hope you'll join us in whatever way is comfortable for you!
